What Is Workers’ Compensation Insurance?
  • Workers’ Compensation Laws were created to insure that employees who were injured on the job were provided with health care and disability benefits. Because these benefits were outlined under state law, this eliminates the need for litigation and creates an easier process for the employee.
  • Workers’ Compensation is not health or disability insurance. It is designed specifically for injuries sustained on the job. For more information on general employee benefits, go to our Group Insurance Benefits section of this website.
  • Workers’ Compensation Insurance is designed to help employers pay these benefits. As protection for employees, most states require that you carry some form of Workers’ Compensation Insurance. Even if it weren’t mandatory, this coverage would be a good idea if you employed several employees, especially if they engaged in hazardous services or construction.

  • All reasonable and necessary medical care. This includes everything necessary to treat the effects of the injury. There is no deductible or dollar limit for the covered treatment.
  • Disability benefits. Two-thirds of the employee’s average weekly wage will be paid tax-free due to lost wages, because the injured employee cannot return to work.
